Since retiring from professional cycling, Davis has been a cycling sports commentator, public speaker and journalist.

His story-telling from 'the day' is unparalleled. His passions include; photography and alpine skiing. He spends much of his free time supporting son Taylor's racing career.

Davis was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2000. The Davis Phinney Foundation was created in 2004 when a former bike camp client Kathy Krumme suggested an event to benefit PD research in Cincinnati, Ohio. The DPF has grown and continues to focus on wellness for those with Parkinson's and all chronic disease, as well as to fund research aimed at finding a cure.

PD affects Davis in many ways, but he rides and participates in Bike Camps - displaying & sharing his fabulous descending skills. Davis enjoys supporting the rides & capturing the images on his tiny digital camera as well. And in 2011, Davis published a memoir, 'The Happiness of Pursuit' available online and in book stores.
